Cloud-native architectures, particularly those based on microservices, offer substantial scalability and flexibility benefits. However, these architectures also introduce unique challenges related to service failures and system resilience. This paper explores the principles and mechanisms of fault tolerance in microservice-based systems and examines architectural strategies that enhance service resilience. We also review seminal works previous that laid the foundation for current resilience patterns and propose guidelines for resilient microservices design
